The Wicker Moon Maiden Issue

Unveiling the Strange, the Sinister, and the Supernatural

Dear Seeker of the Uncanny,

Welcome to Wyrdd and Wonderful, where folk horror, forgotten legends, and eerie histories await. By joining this newsletter, you’ve stepped into a world of dark folklore, chilling tales, and hidden horrors—the kind whispered about in candlelit rooms and written in the margins of lost books.

Each issue, you’ll receive;

  • Deep-dive articles on the weird and the macabre

  • Folk horror book and film recommendations and reviews

  • Exclusive insights into my YouTube & writing projects

  • And more eerie discoveries from the shadows of history

Let’s begin, shall we?

The Isle of Man’s Ghostly Guardian

Did you know that the Isle of Man is home to the Moddey Dhoo, a spectral black dog said to haunt Peel Castle? Legend tells of a shadowy beast with glowing eyes, silently watching from the castle ruins. Centuries ago, a foolish soldier tried to confront the creature—he was found dead by morning, his face frozen in horror. Some say the Moddey Dhoo still lingers there today… watching.

Step inside the Museum of Witchcraft on the Isle of Man For more eerie history, explore my latest blog post, where we dive into the haunted relics and occult artifacts hidden in one of the world's most infamous collections that was house on the Isle of Man initially. And be sure to check out my YouTube video on the Museum in Boscastle today.

Folk Horror Picks of the Month

Want to set the perfect folk horror mood? Here are this month’s must-read and must-watch recommendations:

Book: The Ritual by Adam Nevill – Deep in the Scandinavian wilderness, something ancient and vengeful stalks a group of lost hikers. If you love The Wicker Man and The Blair Witch Project, this novel will chill you to the bone.

Film: The Blood on Satan’s Claw (1971) – When a demonic presence awakens in a rural English village, the town's youth fall under its spell. A chilling tale of pagan possession, hysteria, and sacrifice—folk horror at its finest.

What’s Next?

In the next issue, we’ll explore The Eeerie Legend of the Cornwall Imps and uncover another forgotten folk horror gem.

Got a favorite horror book or movie? Drop me an email and tell me—I might feature it in a future newsletter!
